Visa applicants must have been nominated by an approved Australian employer for a job in regional Australia (regional Australia does not include the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Newcastle, Sydney, Wollongong or Melbourne).
There are three streams associated with this visa:
- Direct Entry stream – This stream requires the Sponsor to undertake formal “Market Testing” to establish that there are no suitable local Australian resident workers willing to be employed in that occupation by the Sponsor and also establish the market rate of remuneration for the nominated position. An application must then be made to the relevant Regional Certifying Body for that region who will certify whether or not there is a genuine skill shortage for that occupation.
- Temporary Residence Transition stream– No certification is required from a Regional Certifying Body for this visa stream.
- Agreement stream.
Employers must show they are offering full time employment for a minimum of two years for this regional position.
Applicants must be less than 50 years of age and meet the required English language skills and health and character checks. They must also provide a formal skill assessment for their occupation unless they are applying through the Temporary Residence Transition Stream.
Once the visa is granted the Nominee must continue to live and work in a regional area for not less than two years.
